From Report to Contractor

The one-paragraph answer

The exclusions section is the part of an inspection report worth reading, because what a report does not cover is what generates the call afterwards. Nobody arranging that call is charged for it. The contractor at the other end of it is.

PresalePipe is a referral service, not a contractor or a home inspector. We connect homeowners and buyers with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no inspections and no work, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

Read the exclusions, not the findings

If you have a report, the section worth ten minutes is the one nobody reads: what the inspector was not required to cover. It is the same list in every report, and it is where the expensive surprises live.

Work out which question you have

A finding in the report is one kind of call. Something the report explicitly did not cover is another. The second sort usually needs different equipment, and saying which you have gets you to the right contractor first time.

The number on this site connects you to an independent contractor covering your area. We pass on what you tell us. We do not inspect, quote, schedule or supervise the work.

What we will not do

We will not tell you a report is wrong, or that a finding is serious, without anybody having looked at your house. We have not seen it, and neither has anyone we would put on the phone until they do.
