Plumbing Inspection in Plympton, MA
Only 10% of the people who own a home in Plympton bought it in 2018 or later. Where houses stay in the same hands, systems get older without anybody being obliged to look at them.
The one-paragraph answer
Homes in Plympton rarely change hands — only 10% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later — so an inspection there is usually of a house somebody has lived in for years. The buried sewer lateral is still outside both published standards of practice.

When Plympton moved in
Low turnover means the last inspection on most of these houses is old, and the systems in them have had years to change since. Nothing about a settled town makes plumbing age more slowly.
| Owner households in Plympton | Share of all owners |
|---|---|
| Moved in 2021 or later | 1% |
| Moved in 2018–2020 | 9% |
| Moved in 2010–2017 | 24% |
| Moved in before 2010 | 66% |
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25038 (tenure by year householder moved into unit), 2023 release. Universe: 1,048 occupied housing units, of which 990 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.
What the inspection will not cover
Clothes washer connections are excluded, which surprises people because the machine is in the house and plumbed into it. The supply valves behind it and the standpipe it drains into were not part of the job.

What it is required to cover
The fixtures are a live test rather than a look. InterNACHI requires the inspector to run the water at every faucet, flush every toilet, and check that every sink, tub and shower drains; ASHI requires functional flow and functional drainage. If a fault shows up in ordinary use, this is the part of the inspection that finds it.
The covered list in full. Most people read the exclusions and stop; the two only mean anything against each other.
What to do about it
Where a report says a condition was observed but its extent could not be established, that is the sentence to act on. It means the boundary of the inspection was reached, not that the problem is small.
Ten minutes of reading covers it: what nobody was required to look at, what they were, and the drain run that is a separate instruction altogether.
