Plumbing Inspection in Dudley, NC
Only 11% of the people who own a home in Dudley bought it in 2018 or later. Where houses stay in the same hands, systems get older without anybody being obliged to look at them.
The one-paragraph answer
Homes in Dudley rarely change hands — only 11% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later — so an inspection there is usually of a house somebody has lived in for years. The buried sewer lateral is still outside both published standards of practice.

When Dudley moved in
The consequence of a low turnover figure is not that the housing is worse. It is that far fewer people here have ever had a third party examine their plumbing, and the ones who did, did it a long time ago.
| Owner households in Dudley | Share of all owners |
|---|---|
| Moved in 2021 or later | 6% |
| Moved in 2018–2020 | 6% |
| Moved in 2010–2017 | 24% |
| Moved in before 2010 | 65% |
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25038 (tenure by year householder moved into unit), 2023 release. Universe: 3,699 occupied housing units, of which 2,397 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.
What the inspection will not cover
Clothes washer connections are excluded, which surprises people because the machine is in the house and plumbed into it. The supply valves behind it and the standpipe it drains into were not part of the job.

What it is required to cover
The covered list is shorter than the excluded one and it is not thin. Every fixture run, every toilet flushed, the drain-waste-vent system described, the water heater and its venting examined, the shut-offs located. That is a real morning of work and it is worth knowing it happened.
The full covered list, and why the distinction between the two lists is the whole of reading a report properly.
What to do about it
If you are selling, establish it before somebody else does. The same finding is worth more to a buyer who discovered it than to one who was told.
Both standards are public. Start with the exclusions, then the obligations, and read the sewer scope separately — it is ordered on its own for a reason.
