Plumbing Inspection in Trenton, NJ
Trenton is settled. Only 16% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later, which means most of the plumbing here has not been looked at by anybody in a long time.
The one-paragraph answer
Only 16% of owners in Trenton arrived in 2018 or later, which makes this settled ground. Long tenure does not change the scope: a standard inspection covers what can be seen and operated, and the drain line beyond the house is excluded from it.

When Trenton moved in
A settled town accumulates deferred questions. Nobody has been obliged to look, so nobody has, and the first person to find out is often whoever is selling.
| Owner households in Trenton | Share of all owners |
|---|---|
| Moved in 2021 or later | 6% |
| Moved in 2018–2020 | 10% |
| Moved in 2010–2017 | 21% |
| Moved in before 2010 | 63% |
Source: US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates, table B25038 (tenure by year householder moved into unit), 2023 release. Universe: 80,787 occupied housing units, of which 46,137 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.
What the inspection will not cover
Both standards exclude septic and other sewage disposal or wastewater treatment systems. The inspector confirms that the fixtures drain; the run leaving the building is not part of the job, and it is the most expensive thing on a property to be wrong about.

What it is required to cover
ASHI requires the energy source and vent system of the water heating equipment to be covered, and InterNACHI requires the same ground from the other direction. Where the two standards overlap is the part of the report you can rely on whichever association the inspector belongs to.
What is actually covered — because silence in a report means one thing about a covered system and something completely different about an excluded one.
What to do about it
Read the exclusions in your own report before the findings. The findings say what was looked at; the exclusions say what you still do not know, and only one of those two lists gets attention.
Everything above comes from documents you can read yourself: the exclusions, the requirements, and why a camera down the lateral is never part of it.
