Plumbing Inspection in East Islip, NY

In East Islip, just 13% of owner-occupied homes have changed hands since 2018. A low rate has a consequence people miss: an inspection is the one moment a house gets examined, and most of these have not had one recently.

The one-paragraph answer

Homes in East Islip rarely change hands — only 13% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later — so an inspection there is usually of a house somebody has lived in for years. The buried sewer lateral is still outside both published standards of practice.

PresalePipe is a referral service, not a contractor or a home inspector. We connect homeowners and buyers with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no inspections and no work, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

When East Islip moved in

The consequence of a low turnover figure is not that the housing is worse. It is that far fewer people here have ever had a third party examine their plumbing, and the ones who did, did it a long time ago.

This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.

What the inspection will not cover

Water conditioning systems are excluded by ASHI outright, along with lawn irrigation, fire suppression and clothes washer connections. None of that is an inspector cutting corners; it is the published boundary of the service.

What it is required to cover

InterNACHI requires the location of the main water shut-off and the main fuel shut-off to be described, and whether the supply is public or private. Those are the three lines worth copying out of the report on the day you get it, because nobody looks them up until they are standing in water.

The full covered list, and why the distinction between the two lists is the whole of reading a report properly.

What to do about it

Write down where the main water shut-off and the main fuel shut-off are. InterNACHI requires both locations to be described, and they are the two most useful lines in the document.

The published standards settle most arguments: excluded, covered, and the separate instruction for everything past the building.

New York issues no state plumbing license. New York City licenses Master and Journeyman Plumbers through the Department of Buildings; elsewhere in the state it is your own city, town or county.
