Plumbing Inspection in Huntington, NY

20% of owner-occupied homes in Huntington have changed hands since 2018. That is an ordinary rate, which makes the ordinary mistake more likely: assuming the inspection covered the plumbing.

The one-paragraph answer

20% of owners in Huntington bought in 2018 or later, an ordinary rate. Ordinary is where the usual mistake happens, which is assuming the inspection covered the plumbing: the buried lateral is excluded by both published standards.

PresalePipe is a referral service, not a contractor or a home inspector. We connect homeowners and buyers with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no inspections and no work, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

When Huntington moved in

At an ordinary rate of turnover, the housing here divides fairly evenly between homes inspected in the last few years and homes that have not been looked at since the previous sale, whenever that was.

Universe: 15,665 occupied housing units, of which 13,931 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.

What the inspection will not cover

ASHI asks for the predominant material of the water service, distribution and drain-waste-vent pipes to be described. Predominant is an honest word for a house that has been altered more than once, and it is not a complete answer about any single run.

What it is required to cover

The water heater is covered in more detail than most of the system: InterNACHI takes in the energy source, the venting connections, the temperature and pressure-relief valve, seismic bracing where it applies, and the labeled capacity. What it stops short of is operating any of it.

Worth ten minutes before you read your own report: everything the two standards require, in the order an inspector does it.

What to do about it

If you are selling, establish it before somebody else does. The same finding is worth more to a buyer who discovered it than to one who was told.

The published standards settle most arguments: excluded, covered, and the separate instruction for everything past the building.

Checking a credential in New York

New York issues no state plumbing license. New York City licenses Master and Journeyman Plumbers through the Department of Buildings; elsewhere in the state it is your own city, town or county. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.

Inspection report in front of you?Read us the plumbing lines and nothing else — we do not want the document. We will route you to a contractor covering your area who can quote the items on it, and you are never charged by us. Report or no report, Huntington reaches a contractor through us.
