Plumbing Inspection in Sayville, NY

Only 8% of the people who own a home in Sayville bought it in 2018 or later. Where houses stay in the same hands, systems get older without anybody being obliged to look at them.

The one-paragraph answer

Homes in Sayville rarely change hands — only 8% of owner households moved in during 2018 or later — so an inspection there is usually of a house somebody has lived in for years. The buried sewer lateral is still outside both published standards of practice.

PresalePipe is a referral service, not a contractor or a home inspector. We connect homeowners and buyers with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no inspections and no work, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

When Sayville moved in

The consequence of a low turnover figure is not that the housing is worse. It is that far fewer people here have ever had a third party examine their plumbing, and the ones who did, did it a long time ago.

Universe: 5,387 occupied housing units, of which 4,111 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.

What the inspection will not cover

Neither standard requires an inspector to determine water flow, pressure, quality or potability. A report can be entirely clean on a house whose water arrives at a pressure nobody would live with, because that was never a defect it was looking for.

What it is required to cover

InterNACHI requires the location of the main water shut-off and the main fuel shut-off to be described, and whether the supply is public or private. Those are the three lines worth copying out of the report on the day you get it, because nobody looks them up until they are standing in water.

The covered list in full. Most people read the exclusions and stop; the two only mean anything against each other.

What to do about it

Read the exclusions in your own report before the findings. The findings say what was looked at; the exclusions say what you still do not know, and only one of those two lists gets attention.

The published standards settle most arguments: excluded, covered, and the separate instruction for everything past the building.

New York issues no state plumbing license. New York City licenses Master and Journeyman Plumbers through the Department of Buildings; elsewhere in the state it is your own city, town or county. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.
