Plumbing Inspection in Slingerlands, NY

Slingerlands turns over at about the national middle: 18% of its owner households arrived in 2018 or later. Common enough that most people know somebody who has had a report, rare enough that few have read the exclusions in one.

The one-paragraph answer

18% of owners in Slingerlands bought in 2018 or later, an ordinary rate. Ordinary is where the usual mistake happens, which is assuming the inspection covered the plumbing: the buried lateral is excluded by both published standards.

PresalePipe is a referral service, not a contractor or a home inspector. We connect homeowners and buyers with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands. Every state page sets out who licenses plumbers there and where to check, so you can confirm before work begins. We carry out no inspections and no work, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call.

When Slingerlands moved in

At an ordinary rate of turnover, the housing here divides fairly evenly between homes inspected in the last few years and homes that have not been looked at since the previous sale, whenever that was.

Universe: 3,825 occupied housing units, of which 2,758 are owner-occupied. This counts when the CURRENT occupant moved in, so it measures recent moves as a share of the housing stock — not a rate of sales per year.

What the inspection will not cover

Both standards exclude septic and other sewage disposal or wastewater treatment systems. The inspector confirms that the fixtures drain; the run leaving the building is not part of the job, and it is the most expensive thing on a property to be wrong about.

What it is required to cover

Sump pumps are in scope on both standards — InterNACHI for drainage pumps with an accessible float, ASHI for sewage ejectors and sump pumps. Accessible is the whole qualifier. A float nobody can reach is not a float anybody tested.

Worth ten minutes before you read your own report: everything the two standards require, in the order an inspector does it.

What to do about it

Read the exclusions in your own report before the findings. The findings say what was looked at; the exclusions say what you still do not know, and only one of those two lists gets attention.

Both standards are public. Start with the exclusions, then the obligations, and read the sewer scope separately — it is ordered on its own for a reason.

New York issues no state plumbing license. New York City licenses Master and Journeyman Plumbers through the Department of Buildings; elsewhere in the state it is your own city, town or county. Start here. Ask the contractor which municipality licenses them and confirm it with that office before work begins.
